Hamish Thompson’s Share Trading Story - April 2007

Hamish Thompson’s share trading story can be described as an ‘Aussie Battler Victory’.  In the beginning, Thompson, lost thousands of dollars trading shares and now he is managing a $1.6 million* dollar fund which has already returned 32%* within the past 6 months. When this Bathurst businessman and former farmer describes the beginning of his share trading career he calls himself gullible, as he trusted what all the so-called ‘experts’ were saying about how to make a buck.

In the first few years of trading he spent a lot of time wading through various products, providers and listening to speakers talk about share trading.   Reflecting on his trading career, Thompson said, “Back then I was throwing money at trading and loosing a lot of money.  I had the risk management all wrong.” 7 years later, the 46 year old is consistently returning between 50 and 100%* each year on his various systems. The secret to his success is education and patience.

Thompson operates 8 different trading systems simultaneously to maintain a consistent return irrespective of the market conditions.

Investing time will pay dividends later.   He said, “A lot of people try trading and then give up because they think it’s an easy buck.”

For Thompson, farming is a distant memory and while he owns local businesses in his home town in the central west of New South Wales, he now makes most of his money these days from share trading.
