Young Sydney couple give up a night out with friends to visit their share trading coach

Daniel Sprange and Kristy Spagnolo's Trading Story - February 2008

After attending a Sydney share trading expo Daniel Sprange and Kristy Spagnolo began their foray into the stock market at the young age of 22.

They placed their first trade in April 2006 using savings from their jobs as a school teacher and hotel manager.  In the past two years they have turned their $10,000 float into $23,000*.

Daniel Sprange said, “We chose to trade CFDs instead of equities because our float was so small and we could make our money work harder for us using a leveraged product.”

“A dream of being well-off one day is what motivated us towards share trading.  We could see a way to make money quicker than putting it into the bank.”

This share trading team place their orders each night and use intra-day stops to protect their capital if the market trends against the trade.  They trade both the long and short side of the market.

“Eventually we would like to be able to supplement one of our incomes with the money generated from trading the stock market.  We would like to continue to grow our float by 50% each year and compound the profits,” said Daniel.

Their share trading style is quantitative where they use a system which has been backtested over 10 years to prove that it is profitable based on past performance.  Using four share trading systems they managed to not only survive the January 2008 market slump but actually came through the other side $1000* in front.

“The biggest challenge for us is making time to get to HomeTrader classes to learn more about share trading.  We find ourselves saying no to a night out with friends to go to coaching sessions where we improve our systems with a trading coach.”

“While we are young we want to grow our fund quickly and therefore we use a fairly aggressive trading strategy.  So far this has worked for us and we are keen to continue our success so that we can save a deposit for a house,” said Daniel.
