Surfing the waves of the share and property market

Jeff Collins’ Share Trading Story - June 2007

Share trading has provided Jeff Collins with a wonderful opportunity to fund his real estate development interests and also soak up the surf when the waves are right.

Located in Victor Harbour, one hour South of Adelaide, Collins has found himself admitting that he is now as passionate about trading as he is about surfing. Six years ago Jeff began his formal share trading education through HomeTrader, a company that specialises in providing financial market education.

Jeff said, “I was originally involved in buying property and I was very sceptical of trading the share market.” After Collins completed his education which taught him how to buy and sell shares based on technical analysis he realised that the share market was a place that he could make money.

In 2006, Collins made a 172%* return on his $20,000* float and in 2005 he saw his float grow by 80% trading Contracts for Difference (CFDs).  Instead of reinvesting his profits back into trading, Collins, pours his profits into his investment properties.

Jeff loves to go surfing and he said, “The share market is a bit like surfing. Some waves will give you a great ride and others will dump on you.  The great thing about technical share trading and the use of risk management is that you can ride those waves with minimal risk.”

While Jeff would like to one day be a full-time trader, he currently enjoys being a teacher for children with special needs.  Outside of his work, Jeff is a father of three children who love their sport and he has been fortunate enough to be able to provide them with lots of opportunities with the money he has made through share trading.
