Success StoriesShare trading offers retirement opportunities for Adelaide couplePhil & Bron Ackland’s Share Trading Story - May 2007In July 2006, Phil and Bron Ackland’s family business was destroyed by fire and they were faced with the difficult decision to rebuild their business or retire. Fortunately, their successful share trading strategy provided them with the option to retire while still in their fifties. Phil Ackland said, “It was a difficult decision to retire because we had developed a successful business that had grown over 18 years from our dining room table to a large factory operation. We had a retirement strategy that was progressing to plan before the fire. If it wasn’t for our share trading success we would not have been able to retire at this time and still reach our goals.” Living in Adelaide’s, Hazelwood Park, the Ackland’s have grown their share trading float by 266%* in 3 years and now that they have retired they will have more time to invest in share trading education. The Ackland’s have tried all sorts of share trading programs over the years and they have lost thousands of dollars. Fortunately, this all changed when they sought financial market education from HomeTrader 4 years ago. In December 2003 they started trading a mechanical share trading system which they designed themselves after completing the HomeTrader training modules. This system has on average returned 50%* each year over the past 3 years. Phil Ackland said, “Our strategy was to keep everything simple. As recommended by HomeTrader, we created a trend following system to trade fully paid ordinary shares.” “We have been tempted by Contracts for Difference or CFDs and have begun to design a system to trade these leverage products.” Profits from the Ackland’s share trading will supplement their retirement income and in particular fund their much anticipated overseas holidays. They are planning to travel to South America to visit Machu Picchu later in the year and then experience the Trans-Siberian railway in 2008. Europe is also on their radar of places to visit. Phil Ackland said, “We can now enjoy a wonderful retirement thanks to our share trading education.” When the Ackland’s travel overseas they will close out their positions so they don’t need to monitor the market from afar. On average they spend 10 minutes per day monitoring their trades. Phil Ackland said, “We have suffered some losses and we consider taking losses as a ‘cost of doing business’. Our losses are minimal and our wins are large so we are comfortable with our risk management strategy. Our system results in 50* percent winning trades and 50* percent losing trades.” They have compounded their profits over the past 3 years and in this time they have closed 70 positions. The Acklands are huge advocates of share trading and are excited about the financial freedom that it offers them in retirement.
