Realistic expectations and common sense
Excerpt from Australian Financial Review – 8 February 2007
Sharemarket trading has every sort of potential pitfall and
plenty of hazards are beyond an individual’s control, so training, the ability
to research and education are needed to guide those things an investor can
control.
Jason Davis, who as managing director of HomeTrader runs
courses in all facets of share trading, says one of the first points of
reference should be the Australian Stock Exchange website, which has “very
accurate information” in its company announcement and “high quality”
educational data.
“Some of the education links on the ASX site are pitched at
beginners what’s a share, how to open an account with a broker plus other
fundamentals,” Davis
says of the site, which also links to several training providers.
“There is also contextual information which helps players to
understand the market.”
What’s not provided by the ASX, says David, are tips on
investment strategies. Would-be investors can start by doing their own
research.
differentiates websites providing trading recommendation services from plain
tipping sites in that they have a scientific basis, incorporating qualitative
research of the marketplace and use methodologies such as algorithms.
